After a losing start with the first tip of the season thanks to a tired fourth quarter collapse from the Pelicans the other night, we’re swiftly moving on to our next.
This evening Philadephia take on Detroit at the Wells Fargo Center. The Sixers are currently unbeaten at home and are looking for revenge against the Pistons who beat them in overtime a little over a week ago thanks to a 50 point game from Blake Griffin.
However, I’m not focusing on the team’s desire for a win tonight, I’m interested in how Dario Saric will fare against the hugely dominant big men of Griffin and Drummond. Despite a nice stat line of 14 points, 8 rebounds and 5 assists, Saric really struggled against the Pistons the last time they played. He wasn’t really able to score on Griffin and he certainly wasn’t able to contain him defensively – scoring 16 of his 50 points with Saric as his primary defender.
I can’t see Saric picking up his usual amount of rebounds tonight against the Pistons tonight for a couple of reasons:
- He’ll struggle to grab boards against Griffin and Drummond due to their size and physical nature in the paint.
- Embiid and Simmons – Embiid has a rivalry with Drummond and will no doubt be chasing both points and rebounds as he tries to level the season series. Simmons sat out the previous fixture against Detroit with back tightness. His absense allowed Saric to grab rebounds that usually fall to the 6’10 point guard.
- Wilson Chandler should be suiting up for the Sixers tonight after missing the start of the season through injury. At 6’8, Chandler can play from shooting guard to power forward and has collect over 5 rebounds per game over his career. He’s expected to play a total of 10 minutes tonight and that should cut into Saric’s playing time.
Saric is 11/10 with Paddy Power and Betfair to secure under 6.5 rebounds this evening against Detroit and I think that’s a decent price considering the above. You can boost this to 5/4 with Paddy Power.
