Finally, my first tip of the 2018-19 NBA season is here. Excuse the lack of activity on here – I’ve been waiting to find something with a bit of value and back selections up with data whilst moving house and having limited to no internet connection!
New Orleans are a strong team that I fancy to finish at the top end of the Western Conference, but they’ve struggled as of late – turning a promising 4-0 start to the season into a disappointing 4-3 record. However, they are up against Portland tonight and I think they’ve got a good chance of turning things around (albeit without star man Anthony Davis).
Despite the Trail Blazers’ 5-2 record, I don’t fancy them to keep it up and can actually still see them missing out on the playoffs. The Rockets and Lakers are just two obvious examples of teams in the West yet to start firing on all cylinders that should keep Portland out of the postseason.
I can see Holiday, Mirotic and Randle hanging in their with the Trail Blazers – even without AD and Payton. Expect Randle to be a beast on the boards and provide bench scoring, Holiday to play lockdown D on McCollum and Lillard, with complimentary scoring and hustle from Mirotic.
At 9/4 to win, the Pelicans are, in my opinion, excellent value. However, I am opting to take a bit of the risk out and maintain decent value – New Orleans +2.5 is 13/8 with Paddy Power and that’s my first tip of this season. The Pelicans lost in Denver the other night in a hard fought five point loss before receiving a beating at the hands of the Warriors – I think they can keep it closer or maybe even sneak a win tonight.
Hopefully it’ll be worth the wait and we can kick off the season with a winning tip. There should be more content coming now there is more data to work with. However, it was impossible to not get involved with this one – despite being a pretty subjective selection.
Best of luck to anyone onboard.
New Orleans Pelicans +2.5 – 1pt @ 13/8
